Advocacy

     Referrals to legal organizations: recommendations to local businesses and governments regarding ADA issues and barrier reduction. This includes the Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center, the Mayor's Advisory Commission on the Disabled, the Welfare Reform Transportation Committee, the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, and Mobile Area JOBS Team, affiliated with the Governors Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities.
     The ILC of Mobile works with the Mobile Fair Housing Center to insure that discriminatory acts are not being practiced when it comes to persons with disabilities buying, renting, or leasing a home or an apartment.
     This helps to break down social and physical barriers which keep people with severe disabilities from reaching life goals.
